Pinpointing The Faults Of Others But Not
Our Own
Matthew 7:1-6
Do Not Judge
1 “Judge not, that you be not judged.
2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and
with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not
consider the plank in your own eye?
4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from
your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?
5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you
will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
6 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your
pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and
turn and tear you in pieces.
If our Lord is coming back soon, what will we be doing? Still
pinpointing and highlighting the faults of others or start
addressing our own faults?
Imagine a mega earthquake of magnitude 10.0 is about to hit, what
will we do? Beyond making preparations to live and survive, we must
also make preparations to die if the worst case scenario happens.
Will we be still nailing others down, and esteeming ourselves better
than them?
Thus, let us not criticize others mercilessly. If we do so, we would
be criticized ourselves. For others will treat us as we treat them.
We cannot treat the sins of others to be more severe than our own.
Why should we worry about a speck in the eye of a brother when we
have a big piece of wood in our own eye?
Why should we be so keen in getting those specks out of the eyes of
others, but cannot even see those gigantic pieces of wood in our
own eyes?
We need to first get rid of our own faults before we could be able
to help others effectively.
We cannot address the sins of others, and pass our own judgements on
them if we are not able to address our own sins, and judge ourselves
first.
The worst bullies, inside and outside the churches, are those who
claim that others are bullying them. Others are doing all the wrong
things, and they are doing all the right things. Others are doing
all things wrongly, and they are doing all things rightly. Others
are taking advantages of them, and are exploiting them. But the
truth is that they are the ones bullying others, taking advantages
of others and exploiting others!
Thus we must not give holy things to depraved men or precious pearls to
swine! They will trample the holy things and pearls, and in return,
they will attack us.
They will use the Word of God to their full advantages and evil
agendas, and use it as a weapon to destroy and take others down.
Instead of building others up, they are tearing others down! They
are ungodly but they are able to persuade and lure other people who
share the same wicked agendas to join them in their evil deeds!
Living in times like these, we need to know ourselves. We need to
address our own faults and sins first before we talk about the sins
of others.
Whether we like it or not, the Lord is coming back.
