Ruined lives
and families.
Ruined homes and hotels.
Ruined villages and villagers.
Ruined ships and boats.
Ruined vans and vehicles.
Ruined trees and gardens.
Ruined beaches and shores.
Ruined hopes and dreams.
Ruined thoughts and feelings.
Ruined?
I do not attempt
to write another story about the tragedy of the Indonesian
earthquake and the Asian Tsunami. There are enormous and continual
coverage in the newspapers and the news. This catastrophe was
massive, and its damages were great!
How should one
respond to this tragedy? It is appropriate to respond by
contributing our money and resources to aid the relief efforts. But
more important than our physical actions, God is looking at our
spiritual responses:
- Are our
hearts distant from the hurting people?
- Can we feel
the pains that they are going through?
- Do we mourn
for the loss of lives, families and homes?
- Have we
buried our hearts in the gigantic piles of news and newspapers?
- Have we
muted our emotions?
- Did we
pray?
- Did we
intercede, and stand in the gap between the living and the dead?
- Can we
still worship God?
- Are we
doubting God's mercy and love in this tragic moment in time?
Life is precious
and very fragile. Without any warnings, thousands of people on the
shores of South East Asia were washed and wiped away by the tsunami.
They were not prepared for the killer waves. Neither are we. We can
never know.
But one thing I
am certain: I will continue to live as long as the LORD lends me
breath. While I am living, I will continue to love and serve God and
my neighbours, knowing Him and making Him known to the peoples of
the earth.
I believe what
Jesus said in John 10:10: "The thief does not come except to
steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have
life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
Now is revival
time in South East Asia, especially India and Indonesia! The evil
one wants to destroy them before God could save them. I believe the
waves of God's love will flood these nations, comforting them,
feeding them and healing them as they enter the stages of
restoration and rebuilding. I also believe God will send forth His
people of passion and compassion to bring forth His mercy and relief
to these suffering children and peoples. Love never fails. Even in a
destructive earthquake and a devastating tsunami.
And remembering
an old chorus:
I will serve
You because I love You
You have given life to me
I was nothing until You found me
You have given life to me
Heartaches,
broken pieces
Ruined lives are why You died on Calvary
Your touch is what I long for
You have given life to me
On a neutral
platform, with no strings attached, we can help by serving the
hurting nations and peoples at this strategic event in history!
