Ariel means "lion
of God."
It is the name of a city and three men in the Bible.
- The
symbolic name of Jerusalem (Isaiah 29:1-2, 7), perhaps applied
to the city because the lion was the emblem of the tribe of
Judah (Gen. 49:9).
- Two men of
Moab killed by Benaiah (one of David’s mighty men). They are
called "lion-like heroes" (NKJ) (2 Sam. 23:20; 1 Chr. 11:22).
Because of uncertainty about the exact meaning of the phrase, it
is translated as "sons of Ariel" (NASB), "two Ariels" (RSV), and
"best men" (NIV).
- The man
whom Ezra sent to Iddo at Casiphia (Ezra 8:16).

PRAYER FOR THIS MAN OF GOD
- Last night,
while praying for this man of God at the House of Prayer (6
November 2002), my spirit was deeply stirred. I witnessed the
Lord’s strong presence and anointing. I truly believe that
through praying for this man, we too will receive strength and
hope for our own life battles.
- This man is
liken unto King David. He was a man who loves God and His and
his people.
- He is also
a man of war. Had been fighting for his nation and the purposes
of God since his youth days.
- After many
years of battles gaining victories and joy, and also at the same
time witnessing much casualties and much heartaches, this
elderly man is getting a bit weary. Pray that the Spirit of God
will quicken his heart to be bold and be strong. That like Caleb
of old, even at the age of 85, he would not quit but still cry
out, "give me this mountain" (Joshua 14:12).
- The battle
is not his but God’s! He will not need to fight in this battle.
Pray that he will position himself, stand still and see the
salvation of the LORD Who is with him. Pray that he will not
fear or be dismayed; for the LORD is with him (2 Chr 20:15-17).
- Pray that
this "lion of God" will be used to "level" the "mountains"
(every thought <nation> that exalt itself against the knowledge
of God), and "exalt" the "valleys" (those who are humble and
broken before the Lord); and "make" the crooked paths straight!
(Isaiah 40).
- Pray that
Israel will seek the long term peace God has promised them, and
that they will unite themselves around the Abrahamic Covenant
(Genesis 12); and not some peace treaties offering short-term
gains but resulting in long term pains.
- Pray that
Israel will come to know and behold their God in all of His
fullness and splendour! "The glory of the LORD shall be
revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of
the LORD has spoken." (Isaiah 40:5)
- Pray for
the Arabs that they too will experience God, and accept God’s
best solution as laid in Isaiah 19:23-25. Pray also for the
reconciliation of two ancient brothers, Jacob and Esau (Genesis
33).
- Pray that
more Christians, churches and denominations will stand with
Israel and support her as her people return to the Lord and
journey back to the Holy City of God, Jerusalem.
