The Second Coming Of Jesus Christ

Revelation 22:20
He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Jesus Christ is coming quickly. But why is He coming back again? His true purpose is not the Judgment Day, but when happens after that Judgment Day.

Romans 2:5-11
5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”:
7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;
8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,
9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;
10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
11 For there is no partiality with God.

Many of us just focus on the Day of Judgment, but forget what happens next is the true desire of God. God desires us to dwell with Him forever in His house.

Psalm 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD
Forever.

We must go beyond the one day of judgment to comprehend and appreciate God's goodness and mercy which will surely follow us all the days of our life as we dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Matthew 25:34
Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

John 14:1-4
1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

Revelation 22:12
And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.

Jesus is coming back again to reward those on His right hand, and bring them to a place that He has lovingly prepared for them. He desires us to inherit the kingdom prepared for us from the foundation of the world.

More than anything else, Jesus desires us to be with Him where He is. He desires us to enjoy eternal blessings of heaven as we live the abundant life in Him throughout eternity. No more deaths, tears, sorrows, pains or sufferings.

Revelation 21:1-4
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.
4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Our Lord is coming back soon. But nobody, not even the angels of heaven, knows the exact date and time of His Coming. Only our Father in heaven knows.

Matthew 24:36
But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

Like the disciples of Jesus, we are also curious to know about the day and hour of His Coming. But Jesus clearly tells us that we are not supposed to know those details and information which are held in the Father’s authority.

Jesus may come back today or tomorrow, or next week or next month or next year, or next decade or next century or next millennium. No one knows exactly when the King will return except our Father in heaven.

So what do we do? We are exhorted to be always ready for His Second Coming because Jesus Christ is coming at an hour we do not expect.

Matthew 24:42-44
42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.
43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Jesus had ascended to heaven about 2000 years ago. Why is He still not back yet? We should never forget this truth that with the Lord, one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. Jesus is not slow or has forgotten about His promised return, even though at times it may appear to be so. But He is waiting patiently, for this good reason that He is not willing that any should perish. He is giving more time for sinners to repent.

2 Peter 3:8-9
8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Because of this unknown date and time of the Second Coming of Christ, there are numerous and confusing prophecies and predictions that surface again and again throughout the ages. Most of them are not Biblical. Believers can be easily deceived by false prophets and teachers, and even by false christs coming in the name of the Lord claiming to be Christ. Because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

Our only basis and safeguard is to return to His Word seeking for the answers therein. Let us again reflect on the warnings and exhortations that Jesus had given us concerning His Second Coming.

Matthew 24:3-35

The Signs of the Times and the End of the Age
3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.
5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.

6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.
10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.
12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.

13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

The Great Tribulation
15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand),
16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.
18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.
19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.
21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.
23 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it.
24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

25 See, I have told you beforehand.
26 “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it.
27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.

The Coming of the Son of Man
29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

The Parable of the Fig Tree
32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors!
34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Jesus told us that He will come back in the same manner as He ascended to heaven.

Acts 1:9-11
9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,
11 who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

Zechariah 14:4
And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,
Which faces Jerusalem on the east.
And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two,
From east to west,

Making a very large valley;
Half of the mountain shall move toward the north
And half of it toward the south.

Jesus will stand on the Mount of Olives, and the mountain shall be split into two. It will be a major event in the world, and will be telecast worldwide as breaking news in TVs, smartphones, internet and social media. Everyone will see the Coming King as He illuminates the entire sky from the east to the west, and as the mountain splits into two! No more silently and secretly as a little Baby on a lowly manger in His First Coming, but the Son of Man will be riding on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory in His Second Coming!

Matthew 24:27
For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Revelation 1:7
Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

As our Lord is coming soon, how do we live while we watch, pray and wait patiently for His return? We must live a life that is worthy of His calling as we prepare the way of the Lord.

Luke 21:34-36
34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.
35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Walking worthy does not mean that we just sit back and do nothing. Some people have this misconception believing that they don't need to work as the Lord is coming back soon. They end up living like parasites relying on others for financial support.

2 Thessalonians 3:10-11
10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.
11 For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies.

1 Timothy 5:7-8
7 And these things command, that they may be blameless.
8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

In fact, we must be blameless, not walking in disorder, not busily predicting this and that, not obsessed with endtime prophetic updates and activities which are not based on the Bible, and not presumptuously downloading information from heaven what only the Father is authorized to know!

We must do the work that He has entrusted us to do. To get others into His fold, and teaching them His Word. Opening the gates of righteousness so that others too may enter in and know their God!

Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Amen.

Psalm 118:19-20
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I will go through them,
And I will praise the LORD.
20 This is the gate of the LORD,
Through which the righteous shall enter.

Today, many churches are preaching radically a gospel that is Christ-less, Cross-less and Coming-less. Many Christians have embraced a social and prosperity gospel that promotes wealth, health, personal empowerment and self enrichment instead of Christlikeness, seeking and enjoying the now without having any thought of eternity or having a blessed hope of the Second Coming of Christ!

But we who have this hope in Christ will choose to purify ourselves just as He is pure. We know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

1 John 3:2-3
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

May we be faithful just as He is faithful. Today, tomorrow and till He returns, and then forevermore!
