Behave Like A Christian
Romans 12:9-21
9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling
to what is good.
10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in
honor giving preference to one another;
11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;
12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing
steadfastly in prayer;
13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.
16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your
mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not
be wise in your own opinion.
17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the
sight of all men.
18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live
peaceably with all men.
19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to
wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says
the Lord.
20 Therefore
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
If he is thirsty, give him a drink;
For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
We are the people of God. But do we behave like one of His
children? Do others see the light in us? Do others see the love in
us?
Going to church, attending church services and meetings, and
participating in Christian programs and activities do not
necessarily make us to be a true Christian. What do God require of
us to behave before Him and others?
In Romans 12, the apostle Paul told us that our love must be
genuine. We need to hate what is evil. Hold on to what is good. Love
each other like our own brothers and sisters.
Give others more honor than we want for ourselves. Do not be lazy
but work hard. We must serve the Lord with all our hearts.
Be joyful because we have hope in God. Be patient when troubles
come. Pray at all times. Share with the people of God who need help.
We must be willing to welcome strangers who are poor and needy into
our homes.
Do good to those who have done bad things to us. Wish them well, and
do not curse them.
Be happy with those who are happy. Be sad with those who are sad.
Live together in peace and harmony with each other.
We must not be proud. We need to make friends with those who seem to
be unimportant and insignificant. We must not think that we are
better and more valuable than them.
If others do wrong to us, we do not pay them back by doing wrong
to them. We must try to do what is right and proper before God. We
should love others even if not loved by them. We should give thanks
to others even if not welcomed by them. We should forgive others
even if not forgiven by them. We must not think that we are wiser, smarter and holier than
them. If possible, we must do our best to live in peace with everyone.
We should not try to punish others when they wrong us. We should wait
for the Lord. He is the One who will punish, and pay people back for
the evils they have done!
But we should do this:
Proverbs 25:21-22
(Contemporary English Version)
21 If your enemies are hungry,
give them something to eat.
And if they are thirsty,
give them something to drink.
22 This will be the same
as piling burning coals on their heads.
And the Lord will reward you.
We should not let evil defeat us but we must defeat evil by doing
good.
Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may
see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
We should be a light for others. We should live as godly examples so
that others may see the good in us, and praise our Father in heaven.
If we really know Who God is, and know who we really are, we will
live as what we are called to be!
And we will behave like a Christian!
