Always Learning But Never Know

2 Timothy 3:7
always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

We are now living in the age where knowledge abounds and information explodes. There are always new things to learn every day.

In churches too, we will continually be learning new things or even teachings, but are we able to understand the truth fully? Have we truly known God? And have we become more Christlike day by day?

There are so many Christian or Bible courses teaching this or that. Some good, some not so good. Some centred on the Word, but some are just teaching or inspiring people how to be successful, rich or blessed. Some are Biblical, but some are just humanistic teachings, exalting man rather than God.

Some of us are just interested in attending courses or church programs and activities. After this course, what’s next? After this program or activity, what’s next? One course after another, one program after another, one feast after another, and one meeting after another. Like a hamster in a cage, always running the spinning wheel, having lots of actions and activities, turning round and round and round and round, but actually going nowhere.

As such, some of us are easily deceived by false teachers, prophets and apostles. That’s why Paul wrote to warn us about what would happen in the last days.

2 Timothy 3:1-9
Perilous Times and Perilous Men

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts,
7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;
9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.

We must remember what Paul told us. There will be many troubles and tribulations in the last days. In those times, people will love only themselves and money. They will be boastful and proud. They will say evil things against others. They will not obey their parents.

People will not be thankful or grateful. They will not be the kind of people that God desires. They will not have love for others. They will refuse to forgive others, and will speak bad things about others. They will not have any self-control. They will be cruel, and will hate what is good.

In the last days, people will turn against their friends. They will do foolish things without thinking. They will be conceited and proud. They will love pleasure. They will not love God. They will continue to act as if they serve God, but they are not really serving God. Stay away from those people.

Some of them go into homes, and get control of weak women who are full of lusts and sins. They are led to sin by the many evil desires they have. Those women always try to learn new teachings, but they are never able to understand the truth fully.

Just as Jannes and Jambres were against Moses, these people are against the truth. They are people whose thinking has been confused. They have failed in trying to follow the faith. But they will not be successful in what they do. Everyone will see that they are foolish. That is what happened to Jannes and Jambres.

It is important and noteworthy to know that the apostle Paul was writing concerning the people inside the church, and not outside. Yes, about the believers of the Christian faith in the last days! We need to be diligent and watchful in these days we are living in. There are scammers and fake news everywhere, inside and outside our homes and churches! We cannot afford to lose guard and be careless. We need to watch and pray. And we need to come to the knowledge of the truth. Knowing God and His Word personally.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9
4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the Lord is one!
5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

These Bible verses are not just for people working fulltime in churches or Christian ministries. They are for all of us. We need to be diligent in keeping the Word of God in our hearts, and teaching our own children. Loving the LORD our God with all our heart, soul and strength. Always remember to teach them to our children. Sharing about them when sitting at home or walking along the road. Sharing about them when resting or sitting or standing. Writing them on our hearts and memorizing them. Meditating on the Word of God throughout the day and even at night.

Psalms 1:2-3
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

When we love the Word of God, thinking about Him and what He says during the day and also at night, we will be strong even in these last days! We will be like a tree planted by a river. We will bear and produce fruit in season. And our leaves will be green and not fade away! Everything we do will succeed.

What is important and more valuable is not what we have in our hands, but what we have in our hearts. Some of the Bibles we have at home are collecting dust, but have we kept some of His words in our hearts that are still remaining pure, undefiled and unblemished?

Have we learnt? Are we daily increasing in our knowledge of the Truth? Or are we still spiritual babes needing others to feed us continually? Have we matured and started teaching others?

Learning is one thing but becoming is another. It is a lifetime process.

Thus, let us persevere and never give up in knowing God and making Him known!
