If God Is For Us, Who Can Be
Against Us?
Romans 8:31-39
God’s Everlasting Love
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us,
who can be against us?
32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us
all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God
who justifies.
34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died,
and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God,
who also makes intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation,
or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or
sword?
36 As it is written:
“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors
through Him who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life,
nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor
things to come,
39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall
be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus
our Lord.
What should we say about this? If God is for us, then no one can
defeat us. Conversely, if God is against us, who can defend us?
God allows even His own Son to suffer and die for us. God gave
His Son for all of us. If He has given us His Son, God will surely
give us all things.
Who can accuse the people that God has chosen? No one! God is the
One who makes them righteous. And God knows when and how to punish,
discipline and chasten His own people. The history of Israel and the
Church will reveal how God chastens His own people throughout the
ages.
Deuteronomy 8:5
You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the
LORD your God chastens you.
2 Samuel 7:14
I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits
iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows
of the sons of men.
Psalm 118:18
The LORD has chastened me severely,
But He has not given me over to death.
Proverbs 3:11
My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
Nor detest His
correction;
Isaiah 26:16
LORD, in trouble they have visited You,
They poured out a prayer when Your chastening was upon them.
Jeremiah 2:30
“In vain I have chastened your children;
They received no correction.
Your sword has devoured your prophets
Like a destroying lion.
Hosea 10:10
When it is My desire, I will chasten them.
Peoples shall be gathered against them
When I bind them for their two transgressions.
1 Corinthians 11:32
But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may
not be condemned with the world.
Hebrews 12:5-8
5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to
sons:
“My son, do not despise the hastening of the LORD,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
6 For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”
7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for
what son is there whom a father does not chasten?
8 But if you are without chastening, of which all
have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not
sons.
Hebrews 12:10
For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best
to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His
holiness.
Revelation 3:19
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.
Therefore be zealous and repent.
God will punish and discipline His own people. Who can condemn
the people of God? No one! Christ Jesus died, but that is not all.
He was also raised from death. And now He is on God’s right side and
is interceding for us. He knows what is happening on earth! He knows
who does what even those things done in secret and darkness.
Luke 8:17
For nothing is secret that will not be revealed,
nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.
Can anything separate us from the everlasting love that Christ has
for us? Can troubles or problems or sufferings? If we have no food
or clothes, if we are in danger, or even if death comes—can any of
these things separate us from Christ’s love?
As it is written in Psalm 44:22: “For Your
sake, we
are in danger of death all the time. People think we are worth no
more than sheep to be killed.”
But in all these things we have full victory through God who
showed His love for us. Yes, we can be sure that nothing can
separate us from the love God has for us. Not death, not life, not
angels, not ruling spirits, nothing now, nothing in the future, no
powers, nothing above us, nothing below us, or anything else in the
whole world will ever be able to separate us from the love of God
that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Samuel 17:47
Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with
sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s, and
He will give you into our hands.”
The LORD does not rescue people by using a sword or a spear. And
every one of us shall know that the battle belongs to the LORD. He
will hand all of our enemies over to us.
God is for us, and God is with us. Emmanuel!
