Psalm 87

Psalm 87
The Glories of the City of God

A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A Song.

1 His foundation is in the holy mountains.
2 The LORD loves the gates of Zion
More than all the dwellings of Jacob.
3 Glorious things are spoken of you,
O city of God! Selah
4 “I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to those who know Me;
Behold, O Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia:
‘This one was born there.’ ”
5 And of Zion it will be said,
“This one and that one were born in her;
And the Most High Himself shall establish her.”
6 The LORD will record,
When He registers the peoples:

“This one was born there.” Selah
7 Both the singers and the players on instruments say,
“All my springs are in you.”

Psalm 87 describes the glories of the City of God.

God loves Jerusalem. He had built Jerusalem on the holy mountain.

He loves the gates of Jerusalem more than any other place in Israel. Wonderful things are said about the holy city of God.

God says, “I will put Egypt and Babylonia on the list of nations that know Me. People from Philistia, Tyre and Cush will be born there.”

They will say about Jerusalem, “This one and that one were born there. God will strengthen her.”

The LORD will keep a list of the nations. He will register, “This person was born there.”

They will dance and sing, “All good things come from Jerusalem.”

Isaiah 56:7
Even them I will bring to My holy mountain,
And make them joyful in My house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices
Will be accepted on My altar;
For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.

The house of the LORD will be called a house of prayer for all nations. Peoples from all nations are welcome to come into His house. The LORD will bring the peoples from all nations to His holy mountain. It will be filled with joy and gladness.

Psalm 24:3-4
3 Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD?
Or who may stand in His holy place?

4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.

Who may go up on the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in His holy Temple? Only those with clean hands and pure hearts. Only those who have not worshipped idols. Only those who have not made promises in the name of a false god.
