We have no shortage of information today. Our world is
bombarded with too much knowledge - Internet, websites, books,
newspapers, TV, radio, magazines, journals, newsletters etc. No
human being has all the time to read all of them. Worse still, it is
now potentially dangerous to read and access some of these
information as there is an unprecedented flooding of misinformation,
viruses, hoaxes, fads, gimmicks, quick fixes and mind-benders etc.
No one can be sure of who says what, and of whether the "who" really
exists or the "what" is true.
But in the midst of these junk and trash, there are some true
precious jewels. The problem now is whether we have the wisdom to
find and identify them, and also the ability and strength to carry
them through.
God has given us His most precious and priceless Pearl: His Son
Whose Name is also called The Word Of God! Everything written in the
Bible is related to Him – from the beginning to the end! History is
His Story. We have been looking everywhere else except The Book.
Tons and volumes of books are written about dreams and visions.
Everyday, somebody saw something. Like the eyewitnesses of accidents
and crimes etc., our eyes and hearts can deceive us. Did the angel
has 4 wings or 6? Was his robe blue or white? Was he coming down or
going up? Did he come from the east or the west? I wonder whether we
have the right sense of direction in our dreams with no compass at
hand. Like all true detectives, every clue and evidence must be
checked and verified.
Dreams and visions have this element of guesswork and
speculation. The Book of Revelation brings blessings to the readers
but also many headaches and heartaches as people begin to
misinterpret the visions. Till today, nobody except God is 100%
correct. Nobody except God has the full revelation till all is being
completely fulfilled.
Jesus spoke to the Father, and the Father spoke to His Son. They
did not have to use the language of imagery, dreams and visions.
This is this, and that is that. The Word! There is no
second-guessing of whether "is this that?" or "is that this?" God’s
Word is already inspired and anointed, having full authority. Jesus
resisted the temptation of the devil by the precision of the Word!
Nothing else.
David had the Word of God in his heart. God spoke to him by His
Word and by His Holy Spirit. At times, the Lord sent prophets like
Samuel and Nathan to deliver those words to him. David was a
psalmist. He saw God everywhere he went from mountains to valleys,
and in everything from deer to sheep. David's psalms are loved
throughout ages because he used simple words, not jargons and
illustrations beyond our comprehension. No mystery.
I did a Concordance study to see whether Abraham had dreams or
visions. Abram had one vision in Genesis 15:1. After God renamed him
Abraham in Genesis 17, he had none. As he journeyed with God, he
could hear Him clearly, whether by spoken words in his heart or by
messages sent through God’s messengers.
I am not against dreams and visions. I too have some, and am
still bearing and guarding them. I am against the misuse of them. I
have heard too many that really make me wonder: "Which one should I
follow ? The one yesterday or the one today?"
God’s message to everyone and every church is still: "He who has
an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says…." (Rev. 2 - 3) The
problem with us is that we do not want to hear. One of the loves of
the world is called "the lust of the eyes."
